Clam Sentinel Version 1.19 has been released. This important upgrade extends heuristic detection to all folders, includes
new suspicious file detections and reduces false positives. It also adds support for the Bulgarian language, fixes a
Windows 2000 bug, improves registry monitoring, and inserts a manual restore notice in Quarantine when a file can not be
restored automatically.

Clam Sentinel is a free, open source program that lets users with Windows 98 thru Windows 7 operating systems scan with
ClamWin when files are placed or modified on their computer. It also has a heuristic scan engine to detect malware for
which there is no ClamWin signature. Clam Sentinel is available for download at
https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web. The Clam Sentinel project is a separate project from ClamWin, but
ClamWin must be installed/configured before installing Clam Sentinel. New users should read the Simple Guide included in
the Clam Sentinel installation package. Support, bug reports, and improvement suggestions can be done at
https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web. The Clam Sentinel developer, Andrea Russo of Italy, deserves a
big "thank you" for his hard work in extending the functionality of ClamWin for all users.

Re: error message " \\?\C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\CLAMSENTINEL1.19.EXE \\?\C:\WINDOWS\All Users\.clamwin\quarantine\CLAMSENTINEL1.19.EXE.obfuscated "

Hello,

I got a notification on the taskbar of my Windows 98 2nd edition
12yr-old Dell desktop about this new upgrade. I tried to download it 3 times
and each time it was qurrantined. Was able to delete the contents of
the quarrantine folder.

After reading about this in this forum, I found out that this is a real upgrade
and not some malware, etc. trying to disguise itself in. But what do I do
to upgrade to the latest version if it is being moved to the quarrantine folder after
each downlload?

Thank you for your assistance.

Have a good day <?;>)

These forums only deal with the ClamWin free on-demand antivirus scanner. There is no support here for Clam Sentinel. The notice about the new version of Clam Sentinel was presented only as a courtesy because ClamSentinel is a separate project that uses ClamWin. Many questions can be answered by reading the Simple Guide that comes with Clam Sentinel. You can visit the Clam Sentinel web site at https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ for additional Support/Help there.

Is it still not save to use Clamwin+Clamsentinel as the only AV protection?
Thank you!

If you use Clam Sentinel, I recommend that you also run a daily scan with Malwarebytes Free and Kaspersky's free TDSSKiller for extra protection. For even better protection, use it with Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) or Panda Free Cloud AV, and exclude the ClamWin and Sentinel program and data folders from the other AV's scans; also exclude the MSE or Panda program and data folders from Sentinel's scans to minimize computer resource use. If your computer is older than Windows XP, either run a daily scan with updated ClamWin in Windows Safe Mode or run a daily scan with Norman Malware Cleaner or Dr. Web Cureit--both are free.

Sentinel does not yet "hook" any files to keep them from activating while they are being scanned, so a fast-acting virus may do some damage before Sentinel can quarantine it. Files are scanned in exclusive mode, but that is not as secure as hooking during a scan. After Sentinel is modififed for hooking, it will be okay to use as your only AV.

You can use Sentinel as your only AV if you are a careful, safe web surfer, but I do not recommend it.

Please note, GuitarBob, that Norman Malware Cleaner v2 requires Windows XP :

Windows 9x/Me users may also forget Dr.Web CureIt! which requires Win 2000 :

Thanks for the information, tizef. It appears that both Norman and Dr. Web have dropped support for the older computers. If you can find some of the older versions of Avast, they might work on pre-Windows XP models. Clam Sentinel may be the only AV available for them now.

I am looking forward to it!
Any estimated date for that? At least aproximately? This year, next year, later?
Thank you!

I think the developer, Andrea Russo of Italy, sees the need for it after he was hit by a drive-by download, but there is no date on this. A recent change lets Sentinel open a scanned file in Windows' exclusive mode, but that is not as good as a hook.
