what is the relationship between clamwin and clamav if any?

does clamwin protect against maleware?

ClamWin uses the Clam AV scan engine and signature database. Clam AV is written for the Linux operating system, and the ClamWin developers have ported it over to the Windows operating system. ClamWin is an on-demand scanner--it does not scan in real-time but scans when the user does a manjual scan or when a scan is scheduled. The Clam Sentinel Project (a separate project) enables you to use ClamWin as a real-time scanner (when files are added, copied, or changed on your computer). Clam Sentinel is also free like Clam AV and ClamWin, and it is available for download at https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web. In addition to the ClamWin signatures, Clam Sentinel also has its own system monitor scanner that can detect viruses for which ClamWin does not have a signature.

i have installed ClamSentinel 1.16.

should i keep ClamWin installed? will they interfear with one-another?

Clam Sentinel and ClamWin will not interfere with each other. They work together to protect you. ClamWin must be installed before yu can use Clam Sentinel. ClamWin is an on-demand scanner. An on-demand scanner does not scan in real-time--it only scans when you do a manual scan or a scheduled scan. Clam Sentinel uses ClamWin to scan in real-time--when files are put on your computer or are modified or copied on it. Read the Sentinel Simple Guide and then set the Sentinel option to Monitor For New Malware to Detect Suspicious Files only. Make sure it is set to monitor your C drive and any USB drives you have (they are usually called drive F or drive GO). This will give you good protection. Scan occasionally with a copy of the free version of Malwarebytes antimalware or Trend Micro's free House Call program, which are on-demand scanners.
