Microsoft has a beta version ready for download of a standalone system sweeper. It consists of a bootable version of their Security Essentials AV. This is their version of the Linux rescue disks of some AV companies, but you put it on a CD, DVD, or USB with a pre-installation version of Windows as the operating system instead of Linux. Since the AV scanner does not use the Windows operating system on the local machine, viruses and malware can't hide from it--as long as it has a signature for the malware.

From a "clean" computer, you can download either the 32 bit version or the 64 bit verson at https://connect.microsoft.com/systemsweeper on the web. Download the version that you will be using on your computer and connect to the internet and run it when you are ready to create a bootable CD, DVD, or USB with the AV. It works on computers with Windows XP and newer operating systems. Installation will take less than 15 minutes.

I have never been able to create a Bart's PE bootable CD or the one from Ultimate Boot Disk For Windows, and the Linux rescue disks are a bit hard to use, so I hope to use this. If it works as advertised, it will be a good backup to ClamWin//Clam Sentinel.
