Good day to all, can anyone tell me what 'Malformed database' means, it appears as the error each time a scan is run. Thanks

It means that the signature database used by ClamWin to detect viruses has become corrupt and is useless. This can happen once-in-a-while. It has happend to me a few times since I began using ClamWin back in 2006. To fix this, do a manual update of the signatures. If that does not work, you will have to manually delete the files in the database folder--just the files, not the entire folder, and then do a manual update. The location of the database folder is noted in the ClamWin configuration folder titled File Locations.

That is always the fail-safe option.

ClamWin is not presently a real-time scanner--it scans "on demand" manually or as scheduled. If you surf the web a lot, you need a real-time scanner to scan files as they accessed on your computer. ClamWin is best used as a backup "second opinion" to a real-time scanner. Some good free real-time scanners are Microsoft's Security Essentials, Avira's AntiVir, and Avast.

If you like ClamWin, you might want to look into the Clam Sentinel front end for it, which lets you scan with ClamWin in real-time as files are added to, modified or copied on your computer. Sentinel also has its own system monitor that identifies new malware for which ClamWin does not yet have a signature. Sentinel is a separate project from Clam Win and can be downloaded from https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web.
