Hello!

On 3 PC's in my network i got the problem that scanning oulook-attachments is very slow. It takes up to 30 seconds to scan a 800 MB jpg-file and the cpu-load goes up to nearly 100% (by clamscan.exe) in the meantime.
So I got two questions:
Can I do something to speed scanning up? (The outlook-pst-file is local and i set the priority for clamwin from "low" to "normal")
Can I turn off the scanning of attachments without deinstalling clamwin and reinstalling it without the outlook-support? I found nothing in the preferences

Thank you in advance!

Hi Stefan,

First, are you sure you have 800 MB email attachments, or is this a typo ????
(the maximum recommended size for an email is 3 MB, so this could be called a major abuse, and it is pretty normal for an 800 MB file to take even longer to scan).

Anyway, to answer your questions :
- The only thing you can do for tuning the performance is to set the priority of the ClamWin process (preferences - advanced). Be carefull : changing this setting can have unexpected consequences, but you could give it a go.
- You cannot uninstall the outlook plugin. The current installer even won't give you the choice, if it detects outlook, it will install the addin. You can disable it only by changing settings in the registry, which is not recommended.

Hi budtse,

first, thanks for your immeditate reply! Of course it is a typo ... 800 KB is correct - not MB - sorry!
I already changed the priority-setting and this slightly increased the performance - but the users are still moaning ...
What I don't unterstand is, that clamscan works fine on most computers but it doesn't on these 3 I got the problem with. Could you suggest minimum RAM requirements?

So, if it's impossible to stop clamwin from working when it detects outlook during the installation, I would suggest to include this feature in further versions. It can always be handy to stop the virusscanner. Maybe not for the user, but at least for the support staff.
