What is the best antivirus to download on my pc?

As a practical matter, there is no one best AV software program. They are not all equal, however. Some are actually better than others. Of those that are better, different tests will produce different results--depending upon the test files, the biases of the tester, and the testing procedures employed. I think one relevant critera is to look at the antivirus programs that are used by other AV programs for their scan engine. I know that Kaspersky, Bit Defender, Avast, Sophos, Ikarus, and Virus Buster are used by other AVs. F-Secure won the best AV award last year from the AV Comparatives test site last year, and it uses the Bit Defender engine and its own engine. Microsoft uese multiple AV engines in its Forefront commercial product.

As for free AVs, Microsoft's Security Essentials is the easiest free AV to use. It provides very good protection and is light on resources. Avira's AntiVir free AV is good as well. Avast's free AV verison is much more complete than a free AV has to be--it is almost a security suite. The free AV from Lavasoft is also pretty good. The free AV from PC Tools is adequate, although not as good as the others mentioned. Finally, for knowledgeable users who are careful about their surfing, the combination of ClamWin and the Clam Sentinel real-time scanner provides decent protection, although I recommend an off-line backup scanner, like Malwarebytes or House Call until the Sentinel heuristics are beefed up a bit more.

There's so many free antivirus online but I suggest you search first which of those are okay. In our case we have tried plenty of them like AVG and avira. As of now we have installed Avira and it works perfectly fine with us. I have also a pc performance software that assess the performance of your pc and detects those malware and spyware which I assumed you are not totally aware of since they usually go into our pc system without noticing them.

With AVs falling NOW in the well after the fact that damage is done category, go with a HIPS or behavior blocker, ClamWin and ClamSentinel. It's nice to find a trojan on your drive with a good free AV, but it's best to keep it off before it gets there because it was probably sitting there talking to the rest of the internet or trashing files irreparably for a week or more before the AV vendors placed it in the update sigs. The average AV vendor find time is about two weeks to a month on "less harmless" malware -- whatever "less harmless" means. The net is getting dangerous, just d/l Kerio FW 2.1.5 and do some real logging of the bad hits in the past few minutes. Those hits are no longer targeted for the socket files, but for every file, process, service, activity mode and much, much more.

There's so many free antivirus online but I think KIS is best, i beleive in protection of kis. but it has a drawback is slowing down your computer when it update. try it now to see I said is correct

Another factor to take into consideration is size and use of system resources. I find many of the big name players to be absolute memory hogs. I am aware that in this day and age most people have fast computers, but not everyone does, and even with one, it can be a nuisance.

Also, you probably want to get something a bit more comprehensive than merely an antivirus program. Like dw2108a said, best thing is to stop the virus before it even gets on your PC. A good firewall, malware/adware remover, and other security attributes are a must nowadays for a clean computer.

This is new, of course maybe he just want ideas from others who has tried different av programs. I have been using the kaspersky ever since but after this expires, I might try Clamwin for a change.

I think it's okay to mention other anti-virus programs so that ClamWin will be able to improve its features and be more reliable than others. =)

Some comments have links to other products, so it is possible there is some spamming. Other AVs keep the subject on their own AV on their forums unless it is initiated by a moderator--such as to mention a removal tool.
