Changing default quarantine location

I installed ClamWin on an old Win98 machine, because I don't want to leave it unprotected, but I do want to have it accessible. Anyway, the C:\ drive is low on drive space, so I decided to move the quarantine to a different drive letter. When I did that, I had problems getting it to work, as it always gave me an error about an invalid location. I finally figured out that it was the trailing backslash that it was complaining about. I would recommend possibly putting an example in the dialog box instructions for the quarantine location so that people will be less likely to make the same mistake I did.

Also, is there a way to get the default exclusions back? When I was working on the problem above, I deleted all the exclusions as part of my troubleshooting.

thanks!

Yes, ClamWin isn't very forgiving in the way you have to use the backslash. Thanks for the suggestion. Here is how I have to exclude an entire directory: c:\directory\* .

The default exclusions from ClamWin scans are (preceded by a star and a dot--*.): dbx, tbb, pst, dat, log, evt, nsf, ntf, and chm.

Thanks, GuitarBob. I'll give that a shot when I get home. It's nice to be able to find an antivirus that still supports an O/S like Win98. Very Happy I realize it's way past it's "extended support" period, but hey... I've got a lot of files and games still on that machine and I think if I were to try and upgrade to WinXP or something, it just wouldn't be pretty. Surprised

I originally came to ClamWin back in 2006 when the AVs started dropping support for Win 98. I now have Vista (it's a dog!).

You might be interested in the ClamSentinel Project (not part of the ClamWin Project). Clam Sentinel adds a real-time scanner to ClamWin. Sentinel also uses its own heuristic scanner to identify malware for which ClamWin does not yet have a signature, and it will flag other files for you that might be suspicious for you to check them out. Sentinel uses the ClamWin quarantine folder. ClamWin must be installed before you can install/use Sentinel. Then next version of Sentinel will split the heuristic detection and suspicious file detection so that one can be used without the other, at the user's option.

Clam Sentinel was originally developed for Windows 98 computers but works on Win 98 through Windows 7 computers. It is available for free from https://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web.
