Ive been using Clamwin on 2 pcs for about a week now and have told many about it. I love it let me add. Im just wondering that if I scan regularly and scan everything I download from internet will clamwin keep me protected from viruses out today? Is its virus database good? Please let me know if you think clamwin alone will keep my pc safe. Thanks

clamwin shares the virus database with clamav and it is updated several times a day. All new viruses are promptly added to the database. Although the total number of viruses may seem less then other commercial AV vendors claim to have but if clamav db misses some viruses then these will be ancient species.

So far clamwin does not have on-access scanner so you need to be careful and scan a suspicious file before opening it. If you do that you will be as safe as with a commercial AV. User awareness is sometimes better then automatic protection, as it may be easier to break the automatic protection then to fool an educated user.

But I must stress that for an average user with little knowledge about online security on-access component is a must and the clamwin should be used only as a complimentary scanner. We are developing it and will release in couple of months.

I've used to use NAV and consider moving to ClamWin. Since I preferred to use NAV only on demand anyway, how would you compare strictly their databases (there's also the question of e-mails, but I know you decided to give that up for that other program, although it has no transparent (configuration free) proxy like NAV)? I know this is actually a ClamAV question, but this topic just looked fit for it...
