Hi all, I've been using Clamwin for quite a while now. It's been great.

But a couple days ago it seems to have deleted some important Windows startup stuff. (It's partly my fault - I should have set it as "report only.")

I can't boot into Windows, not even in safe mood. I've got my Windows XP CD and am in the Recovery Console but have no idea what to do. Any help is appreciated.

you should press f8 at boot, select "disable automatic reboot" and see if the blue screen says something useful about the missing file/s

There used to be a System File Checker that you could run that would check your system and restore needed files from your installation disk. I don't remember, however, if Windows had to be intact on your machine in order to run it. You might see if running it is an option in the Recovery console. Also, can you do anything with the System Restore? Finally, there is an XP, SP3 ISO file somewhere on the internet that you can download, burn to a CD as an ISO file, and then boot up and restore the system. I haven't used it, but I have used the related Vista ISO file from the same place--don't remember where it was though. Check the file with an AV before you run it though--the download site can have some bad stuff!

I was able to boot into safe mode myself, but there wasn't much I could do. I ran sfc /scannow before I tried the initial restart that failed and it did restore one of the system files that got munched. I placed it into another folder it hadn't been restored to. Wish I'd have known about the F8 trick, heh. Oh well. But yeah, sfc won't work in safe mode.

Windows restore is rubbish. I've tried to use it on the last 2 laptops I've had and both times it did nothing and couldn't recover my data. Try using it in safe mode.
i am experiencing difficulity along with toenail fungus but I discovered https://nailhelp.com/zetaclear-review Zetaclear. If you're also experiencing difficulty using toe nail fungus then take a look.

Search for a Windows XP SP3 ISO file on the web. If you find one, download it and burn it to a CD as an ISO file and run it. Be careful about downloading because there are many viruses around sites that have this sort of stuff.

A Google search for "Windows xp iso sp3 download" turned up lots of sites. Stick with a known one--like Softpedia. Make sure the file includes the complete XP OS--not just the SP3 stuff. The file will be very large. You may have to download with uTorrent or something like that.
