That's right--you can't tell if something is a virus if it is not in ClamWin's database. However, most people use ClamWin as backup to a real-time scanner. If the real-time scanner spots something in real-time (when a file is put on your computer), you can sometimes scan it with ClamWin before you do anything with it (sometimes you can't access the file, however). If ClamWin doesn't spot it, you can then copy it to the ClamWin quarantine directory, tell the real-time scanner to delete/quarantine it, and then upload the file in ClamWin quarantine to the Clam team starting at https://www.clamav.net/sendvirus/ on the web. Be sure to delete the file from quarantine afterwards.
As for reporting malicious web sites, here is a link to a Google page: https://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_badware/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jasonblogs.com%2Ftech%2Fsecurity%2Freport-malicious-sites-to-google-with-this-bookmarklet.html on the web. You can also report malicious sties to: submitstuff@javacoolsoftware.com on the web. They will put the site in their Spyware Blaster database. There are other places on the web where you can report spam and phishing sites. You can search for them. There doesn't seem to be an "official" place/places where you can report bad stuff. Regards, |

Thanks Bob,
The help is much appreciated. To follow up on reporting a web site to microsoft. I use explorer 8. There is a saftey tab. When you drop down - there is a fly out for reporting an unsafe web site to microsoft. I remember the bad web site and where it is in the google search. However - I do not want to click on it to activate the fake alert - but I want to report it as an unsafe site. Is there a way to do that? Many thanks for your help, Regards, SA |

I see. IE 7 has something similar under Tools to report a phishing website, but you have to go to the web site.
Could you put IE-8 Security, Internet options to High--disable active-x , scripts, etc. and then visit the website to report it? Regards, |
