 I would not worry about restoring .msp files - these files are cached Microsoft updates that have already been applied. These are saved in case you ever wanted to uninstall an update | |||||||||||

 that's what I thought as well however I still can't open excel. I can't run my original Office disk to repair it either, which is still frustrating.  
 I suppose I can uninstall and reload Office; if I do that do I need to backup my emails and calender with MS Outlook first? Curtis | |||||||||||

 Technically it is not required as reinstalling does not touch email files, but I would advise to back it up anyway. | |||||||||||||
