Hello Clamwin team,

I just bought a Solid State Drive (SSD) as the main "drive" for my Windows XP Computer. SSDs have only a limited write endurance, so its usefull not to write unecessary to the SSD.

I ran Microsoft Process Monitor while scanning my SSD with clamwin and i noticed thousands of "write file" activities from clamwin to the temp dir in my "documents and settings/./temp". Is that necessary or maybe harmfull to an SSD? Could those operations be performed in the memory rather than on the SSD?

Work around could be to set the temp dir to another drive if the option would be available.

Saving to temp is necessary in libclamav in order to unpack archives and unfortunatly cannot be changed. You can change your Windows Temp folder location to another drive and clamwin shoudl observe it. (see this article for how to change temp dir:

Anyway I would be useful to include a "set temp dir" option to clamwin -> more user friendly and I dont have move all of the windows temp files to another drive.

I just scanned my c:\windows dir and process monitor recorded about 1 million (!) write file activities from clamwin.exe to the drive.
