Scanning trouble

Since yesterday, clamwin has been unable to scan. Whenever I try it informs me in the scan log that an error has occurred and stops immediately before scanning anything. On top of that bitdefender informs me that the file clamwin creates in the user/temp folder is a trojan. Bitdefender has been unable to find anything else wrong with my computer and I've tried reinstalling clamwin with no change. Is this Bitdefender acting up again and falsely disabling a program like it did with firefox for a day awhile ago or do I have a problem?

Hello,

As you mention the Bitdefender issue first thing I would suggest is to temporarily disable Bitdefender and run a scan with Clamwin, so that you can check if this can be the cause if the failure.
If nothing appears you may try to make on online scan (I used a free service called House call @ https://housecall.trendmicro.com/ )to scan your machine for malware.

If scan spots something you can try to have it fixed using the Doctor Web's Cureit! application. If problem with Clamwin persist you should try to run the scan setting the command line in Preferences with -v option. This will print a listing of all the files being scanned by the program, so this could be of help to trace when failure occurs.

Hope this helps,
Antonio

Thanks, disabling bitdefender did indeed allow clamwin to scan, scanning is underway. preliminary scans have claimed that some of bitdefenders files are HTML.Phishing.Pay-151/HTML.Phishing.Bank-1232 but since clamwin has done this once before in the past and it was a false positive I'm tentatively considering it to still be the case. Perhaps the full scan will turn up something else.

To what Antonio suggested, let me suggest that you disable ClamWin's quarantine folder from Bitdefender's scans and these files also: nocomment.html and notags.html. This should eliminate any Bitdefender false positives on ClamWin's temp files and anything it places in quarantine. By the same token, you should also eliminate Bitdefender's folder from ClamWin's scans (and the Bitdefender quarantine file if it is in some other location besides the Bitdefender folder.

Thanks, Sherpya. I thought the message sounded a little strange.
