gee I am totally new here, but did you try uninstalling and then re-installing a fresh new version? That's my suggestion for what it's worth.

Are you running it under Vista without elevated privileges?

Yes, I tried re-linstalling. And get this: I have a second Dell computer just like it, the exact same ten-years-or-so old. I changed its harddrive and reinstalled a new copy of Windows XP. And Clam Win gives me the same problem on it, too.
I bought Norton for both, now. And of, course, now both computers run more slowly, as Norton does his song & dance in the background. The first installation on the first computer was a reinstall of Windows XP Professional. The newer installation on the second identical computer is Windows XP for homebodies. It must be a hardware problem. The new harddrives? Their identical, too. Both Caviar. Any help would be appreciated. |

It might be worth a try to run chkdsk and defragment your hard drive--couldn't hurt, I guess.
Are you running anything different in the way of programs on the new drives that you did not have on the old ones? Dell used to have a version of Norton Ghost on it to enable you to revert the drive back to what was on the Dell installation if you ever need it. It works fine with ClamWin on my computer, however, perhaps something like this is messing you up in conjunction with that specific model of hard drive. Regards, |

bonosera,
If you are running XP do not use Ghost as it seriously slows down your puter to be just plain snail paced! Also it does not copy programs effectively and would tend to crash if you tried to do a 'system restore' to an earlier point. I run Norton, have for nearly 10 years, but only cleansweep and the other cleaning/checking tools (*like Norton WinDoctor (*which will always say that you are missing msvcr80.dll! Which you aren't) Or the cleaners for active x's or cookies). I use selective start up and only load Norton cleansweep. I do graphics so I tend to collect a bunch of debris. I have cleansweep set up to load at start up and that is it. Norton is notorious for hating other anti-virus programs, so I would disable that, and then re-install clamwin. I use clamwin for deep cleaning and (*sorry) Antivir (*used to be AV), and also spybot, superantispyware, and malewarebytes. I have win XP pro, and a dell GX745. On my old system it was a GX100, and a GX645. I have no issues with mine since I stopped using Norton anti-virus, and just the cleansweep. You might try that. Ariana_DPGX |
