Once files have been moved to the quarantine area, how do you remove them from the file?.

ClamWin quarantines the entire file containing the virus/malware. ClamWin doesn't do any "cleaning." You have to manually delete the entire file from quarantine--you can't remove the virus/malware. That's why you need to verify that a file contains malware before you do anything to it. Jotti at https://virusscan.jotti.org/ on the web and VirusTotal at https://www.virustotal.com/ on the web are two good free scanning services where you can verify a file is infected.
