IE5 gives the following pop up when opened:
attention! if your computer is infected, you could suffer data loss, erratic pc behavior
Do Not Open this link!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It also opens a new webpage at https://antivirus-server.com/2009/1/freescan.php?aid=77052207-microsoft intern
I just downloaded Clamwin last night to help rid the problem but thus far, no such luck. I am running it a second time to see if it eliminates the problem. On a brighter note, The computer is running better since before Clamwin was installed and run initially. Clamwin found numerous trojans.
Maybe someone can help me with this one.

This sounds like the "front end" for a rogue security program. Don't click on anything.
Suggestions:
If you run Windows IE7, set it to block popups (Tools), and you might turn on the phishing tool as well if it's not already on. I don't know much about FireFox's browser, but it probably has something similar/better, and it may be automatic.
Then, download the free version of WinPatrol at https://www.winpatrol.com/ on the Web. It will monitor startups, active tasks, hidden files, services, and IE helpers for you. Research anything it finds before you delete/kill it. Threatfire's free behavior blocker at https://www.threatfire.com/ on the Web is better but it's a little more intrusive, I think.
You might also download the free Spyware Blaster from Java Cool software at https://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html on the Web. Set it to enalbe all protection, restricted sites, and IE/FoxFire protection (whichever you use).
If you still get the popup, the ClamWin Antimalware page may have some resources you can use.
Good luck!

you can also download a real goog program called Spybot: Search and Destroy. it has a built in protection program that will allow you to help keep a program from running. before you do anything, be sure to read the manual and faqs as you can cause further damage to your system.

Hello all,
As a further choice I would recommend Spyware Terminator (www.spywareterminator.com), which is free, has real time protection, removal tool for spyware/malware and behaviour blocker. Moreover it is localised in several languages (italian amongts others). It can be dowloaded together with the Web Security Guard application which integrates both with IE and Firefox and alerts user once he is surfing on hazardous sites.
As a priority, my suggestion is to update the browser to most recent version . Both IE and Firefox may be set to block pop ups from undesidered URL's and have much more options to be enabled for safer browsing.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Antonio

Popup blockers will not solve this problem as the popup does not typically originate from a webpage, but from inside of a piece of malware that is running on the computer. I would recommend visiting something like spyware info malware removal forms at https://www.spywareinfoforum.com/index.php?showforum=18 https://www.spywareinfoforum.com/index.php?showforum=18.

If you Google for the malware name, you can probably find out about the malware--what it does , and the files it places on your computer.
Some of the good antispyware programs should be able to help with this, and some of the antivirus programs now incorporate antispyware--like the free version of Avast available at https://www.avast.com/ on the web. This program has really been improved lately, and it's about as good an antivirus program as you can get for free. The free version of AVG doesn't have spyware protection, and neither does Avira's AntiVir.
Try Microsoft's free Windows Defender, available for download at https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=435bfce7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&displaylang=en on the web. It's really pretty good for a free antispyware program. It's not updated as often as the paid stuff, but the average user is probably not going to get too much "cutting edge" spyware. The program also is able to spot some general malware. It also scans in real-time and you can set up automatic scans/updates.
The free version of SuperAntispyware is better than Windows Defender, but it does not scan in real-time, and you have to do a manual scan. It's available for download at https://www.superantispyware.com/ on the web. The program comes with a link to their page where you can check the processes that are running on your computer, which is very handy.
The free version of WinPatrol is also pretty good at finding hidden files/processes/browser helper objects/Active-X/Startup objects when they are first put on a computer, but in your case, the bugger is already there.
You might use Windows Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and look at the processes on your computer. Investigate (Google) each one until you find a strange one, and that could be the file responsible for bringing the malware back.
ClamWin also has an Antimalware Page--available in a link on the main ClamWin page at https://www.clamwin.com/ on the web.
