ClamWin tells me continually, for over a period of 2 months, that my computer is infected. I've set the parameters for any virus, etc., to be quarantined, but it doesn't seem to do this. It just continues advising of a virus. What good's the program if it finds a virus but does nothing with it? One of the forum answers advises going to another site to verify it isn't a false positive. It was not false, but then to remove it, THAT site wants $$$$$. So I'm beginning to wonder what is the point of usingClamWin. (Plus, a product that offers no support! hmm. Your customers deserve better treatment than that.) I REALLY hope I'm all wrong about this, and need help to clean my computer. Thanks.

1. customer - "one that purchases a commodity or service" (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/customer)
From whom did you purchase ClamWin? It doesn't cost anything to obtain from www.clamwin.com.

2. You are here currently asking for support. The forum is offered as 'best effort' support mechanism. A free product, with free support. I am failing to see what the complaint is... If you performed a single search on the forum prior to asking this question, you would see that is has been asked *many* times before and is answered the same way each time.

3. ClamWin in its default configuration is set to "Report Only" when it encounters something it has detected. There are two other options available, quarantine and remove. It must be mentioned that the virus detection databases are also provided for free by volunteers, which have a tendency to false positive slightly more often than say a commercial anti-virus, so it is wise to verify that the files are actually infected.

Are you an employee of ClamWin? When I used the term "customer" I was being less literal than you, not having looked it up in the dictionery, but merely meaning more informally that I downloaded the product, albeit a free product, and use it. If you have a problem with my choice of words - mea culpa.

You additionally appear to have a problem with me asking a question that has been asked "many" times before. Again - sorry. It was my first visit to the forum and frankly didn't have time to scroll through the entire content.

And if I've somehow offended you personally, which it certainly would seem to be the case, I again apologize. I've just crashed and burned over and over and over again.

And what I meant by no support is support via the supplier, but rather having to depend on other users for their suggestions. At least that's what I thought. Perhaps it's due to my non-technical self, but I always appreciate being able to communicate one-on-one with a product representative.

All of that having been said - I'll just uninstall the program since obviously I haven't a clue.

There are no employees in ClamWin. It is a free software project developed and supported by volunteers in their free time.
We try to do our best and respond to most questions and queries. However because we have day jobs and families sometimes the response is not immediate.
It would help if you just asked the question with as much detail as you can provide instead of complaining about lack of support in your first post.

Regards,
Alch

I'm not offended at all, but I do tend to mirror the perceived tone in my response, which in this case I would classify as indignant. (Re: Your customers deserve better treatment than this.)

Unfortunately, the representatives, (alch and sherpya) are quite busy as it is producing clamwin, and rely on knowledgeable users to provide answers to most questions. (GuitarBob does most of the leg work in helping folks...)

In your particular instance, clamwin may be detecting one piece of a malware 'package', which if the other pieces watch out for their 'family', after clamwin removes it, they can put it right back. This is simply a guess, however, without more information, that is all we can do.
