How did you find out about the Clamtmp folders if you can't access them? What are their names? You might try a search to locate the tmp files/folders and then see if you can delete them from the right click menu. You might also run the Disk Cleanup program from Windows Accessories. Otherwise, download a copy of the Unlocker program, install it, and see if you can delete the temp folders using it--just right click on the file (if you can access it) and work Unlocker from there.
What kind of problems are you having using other scanning programs besides ClamWin? What other scanning programs are you using? You should only be using one resident (on-access/real-time scanning) antivirus--ClamWin doesn't count because it doesn't yet have a resident scanner. Regards, |

Thanks for your responces. It helped a little. I was able to delete everything else in the temp folder by using Unlock.
The four - now six - files are: clamav-3c7d11e6fd7ab70fc491fe64dcb3198100000c34.clamtmp clamav-5e57dd5781631f1c71682507ce8ee9f9.00000c18.clamtmp clamav-6cb4c06d9255f5324105120bd792550a.00000d54.clamtmp clamav-858bc98b22132edc3124e00259f07fd6.00000ab0.clamtmp clamav-d28f9d3fe6df83be746f871bf1171780.0000064c.clamtmp clamav-f9ac91c13f168a091807231692aac589.00000cc8.clamtmp I found them as one of the programs I tried to delete the files with returned these as the error before it crashed. Windows will normally not even open the temp folder they are in and I have tried to scan the folder with only them in and Clamwin still craches. Right now I man seriously considering format C as windows file cleaner cannot run. rbl |

Did you check your disk as Sherpya suggested? Any problems? I would do that and then scan with another AV to see if you have similar problems with--check your logs after running it.
Can you access/edit other types of files? Can you see the file extensions? Do you have access to all your normal Windows file/edit functions? If you can, and the other AV scan was okay, then this is probably a ClamWin thing, and I don't think you need to re-format just for that. You need to find out what file/type is causing ClamWin to "break." If you can do that, Sherpya/Alch can probably help. If no luck, remove ClamWin and see if that cures things. If your ability to access/use file functions is limited in other directories as well as the clamtmp files, I would suspect an active malware infection. In this case, get into Windows Safe Mode and scan with ClamWin. If nothing found, I would do a normal scan with an antirootkit (say F-Secure's free Blacklight). If nothing found, try a Safe Mode scan with Norman's free Malware Cleaner. As a last resort, then reformat/reinstall, but I don't think you will need to go that far. I hate to have to do that! Well I will try all the things you mention tomorrow but I do not think you got the main point in my first mail:
The folders are causing any program that try to access it to crach. That go for both ClamWin, cleanmgr (the main problem), Edit+ ect. The only program that does not crash (that I have tried) is Unlocker Assistant but I do not seem to be able to remove them with that program. Window's Explorer.exe crashes even when I get near the temp folder they are in Anyway thank you for the time you put into it. rbl |

Well latest progress:
I did a run to scan the discs on start-up. It did not fiw the problem but I am not compleetly sure I did it right. I did then scan with AVG but that also crashed around the time it got to the file folders and then it would not run anymore. Interessting, though, it did find the folders and requested them closed on install but they are still there.
I can access all other files just as I allways have been able to do. It is just those folders that is a problem. I have tried running it in safe mode but it does not chance much. I have though stumbled over another thread about the same problem though they did not find a solution. I will keep looking. Edit: Btw I forgot Norton's Malware Cleaner identified a file in the folder before terminating on a fatal error: _5_SummaryInformation rbl |

I think Sherpya wanedt you to run scandisk and/or defragment to clean up your disk.
It seems that there are a couple of files or type of file that is causing problems with your antiviruses. Is there any way you can identify the file(s) and their size or the directory that contains the problem file(s)? There may be a scan/crash dump somewhere in one of your antiviruses--maybe Sherpya can help you find a ClamWin dump or a Windows dump. Do you have ClamWin's Limits preferences set to scan for archives? If you do, try unchecking it and then scan to see if the problem stops. If it does, then it is due to an archive file/type. Hi again
I really have no idea which of the many things I did that worked but now I can read the temp-folders just fine and there does not seem to be any problems with them. I noticed that Avast (I tried that, SVG, Clamwin and AntiVir to detect any vira) read over the folders yesterday. I then reinstalled Clamwin and ran it over night. This morning it had found a virus but not the problematic folders nor had it crashed. Maybe the reinstallation fixed the problem. I do not know but thanks for your effort. At least I learned alot of usefull things from the problem rbl |

Good! You can reduce ClamWin's scan time if you set Filters preferences to just scan only for dangerous file types. Do some searching on Google to find a list of them if you want to do this. You are pretty safe in doing this--especially if you use a resident scanner in addition to ClamWin.
