hello all, i am new to this so be nice! i am debating about installing clamwin AV on my machine, and i have some questions. for one thing, does clam run nicely with other av's like bitdefender free (no runtime scanner either) or even an av like AVG that does have a runtime scanner? i am running bitdefender free right now and am not sure which to continue to run, avg, bitdefender free or clamwin av. i would prefer to run 2 or even all 3 if i can and so any light you can shed on this situation would be appreciated. secondly, i am running spyware terminator and it has an option to install clam av right alongside it. does this mean that i get some form of runtime antivirus because spyware terminator is a runtime antispyware? thank you for your responses in advance.

Matt

It should run fine, provided there are no colluding schedules between the two scanners.

Running two scans at the same time is not recommended, especially if they are anti-virus scans.

To address your other question, yes, Spyware Terminator (ST) has an option to include the ClamAV antivirus core in its resident protection, so you don't need ClamWin if you use ST with that option. Clamwin also uses the ClamAV core, but it does not yet have resident protection, which is important to have if you surf the Web a lot.

I don't know how up-to-date the Clam version in ST is, but ClamAV has just released version 0.93, which is considerably improved over the previous version 0.92.1. ClamWin is in the process of testing their version 0.93 for Windows and should release it in a few days. I suspect that ST will probably not be as up-to-date as ClamWin, but you can verify this once you install it. At any rate, resident protection is certainly more important than having the latest version one minute after it is released.

Regards,
