Hello all,

I have been doing some research on the wildlist (www.wildlist.org) and wanted to get some feedback from the security community. Many vendors use the wildlist as a marketing tool, claiming to detect/prevent X percent of the Wildlist. However, looking at the wildlist I wonder if it is even a valid test anymore. The latest list was published last October, and only contains a few hundred viruses. There are also fewer than 100 official virus "reporters" who determine if a virus is "in the wild". I was also looking into a method of finding out how to actually test ClamAV/ClamWin against the wildlist. Since the list only reports virus names, it is difficult to translate names from their naming convention to ClamAV's naming convention. I was able to find a spreadsheet that listed the wildlist according to the names of many different vendors, including ClamAV, but that spreadsheet dated back to May 2007. What are your thoughts? Do you feel the wildlist is a valid standard to compare an AV product too, even if it were up-to-date? Thanks!
