In my office we have a machine running WinXP (not updated to SP2) that functions as a central repository for files. No one uses it as their regular computer, but we use it for scanning paper forms and running a backup of the files every night. It runs ClamWin 0.87.1 and gets the virus updates every workday so we can run manual scans on it occasionally. I have discovered that everything on the the machine slows way down sometimes. It is very painful even to open Windows Explorer! I checked in the Task Manager and discovered that Clamtray.exe was bouncing around in size and using varying percentages of the CPU time. I've seen the size bounce to over 102,000K and back down to less than 20,000K. It most often has been using 2-3% of the CPU, but once I saw it bounce up to 19% very briefly. I noticed the problem happened again today, so I'm asking the users here if they know of any cause or solution for this problem. I rebooted the machine (kind of a pain because first I have to make sure no one is working with it via the network), and then clamtray.exe shows 17,244K in the Task Manager and the computer seems to work at its normal speed. BTW, this problem does not seem to be connected to the updating procedure. While the problem was happening I manually ran the update, but that made no difference. Thanks in advance for your help (or your sympathy if that's all you can offer).

I'm having the same problem and it's rather frustrating. I'm installing the newest version today. I look forward to hearing anyone else's suggestions. The other thing I notice is that it takes FOREVER to scan even a small drive. I have it on my laptop only and it's only a 40 gig hard drive. It usually takes many hours to scan. Is this normal?

Thanks
D
