clamwin scanner is a usermode process and can't cause kernel panic. Most likely you either have a corrupt filesystem (check disk for errors) or a problem with one of the kernel drivers, such as another resident AV or something else.

See if you can scan your drive a section at a time, and maybe then it would be easier to find where the panic occurs--Windows, Programs, Documents/Settings, etc. Once you locate the directory, then scan a subfolder at a time. Once you locate the subfolder, then scan a subdirectory at a time. Once you locate the subdirectory, then scan a file at a time. Get the idea? May take a while.
You might be able to shortcut things if you can recall any new programs that you have added during the period when you didn't scan with ClamWin and start from there. Regards, |

Ran a CHKDSK - the volume is clean.
>> See if you can scan your drive a section at a time Yeah, that was my last resort. I was hoping for a command line option that would display the filename it was processing so I could redirect to a file. -- Scott |

Well apparently the CHKDSK silently fixed something. I scanned each directory individually and they all passed with flying colors (with the exception of the Thunderbird FreeGame false alarm). Any chance of getting clamwin integrated with Thunderbird anytime soon?
Since it takes ~5 hours to do a full scan of my C drive, I'll have to wait until this weekend before I can scan the drive in a single go and verify that the problem no longer occurs. I was dreading having to replace the drive - although it is probably time to clean off some of the cruft that has been gathering over the years. I am astonished at all of the M$ install/uninstall crap left around... Thanks for all your help! -- Scott |
