Stuck on a file during scan

Hey there. New to this and have just started having some trouble with my virus scan. It gets to a file and seems to get stuck on it. I have left it running for a couple of hours to see if it just needed some time to scan this particular file but no progress was made. I am not getting any sort of percentage scanned for this one.

The file is in C:Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\Installer Cache\iTunes 7.1.1.5\iTunes.msi

What could be causing this?

MSI files (Microsoft Installation Files) are hard for ClamWin to "digest," but it usually finishes the "meal" however, and scans the file. I suggest you upload the problem file to VirusTotal for a free scan to see if any other antivirus programs there see any problems with the file. VirusTotal is at https://www.virustotal.com/ on the Web. If they do, you might make another post here to let us know.

The ClamWin developers might not approve of this, but I configure Clamwin to ignore MSI files to speed up my scans. If you want to do this and don't know how, right click on the ClamWin icon in the system tray at the bottom of your screen, click on Configure, click on Filters, use the slider arrow to go down on the left part of the screen past the default file types that are ignored, click on the box between the AE and the X, type *.msi, and then OK it. Remember this if you need to add other file types to ignore later. On the right side of the Filters screen, you can do a similar process to configure Clamwin to only scan certain file types and ignore the rest. This can speed up your scans, as there are only about 60 or so file types that are most likely to harbor malware.

My justification for ignoring MSI files: I use another real-time/on-access antivirus program for my primary scanner, and I scan all new files (to my knowledge) when they are put on my computer.

Regards,
