ClamWin Free Antivirus does not include an on-access real-time scanner, that is, you need to manually scan a file in order to detect a virus. Microsoft Outlook Addin, however will delete a virus-infected attachment automatically.
The on-access scanner feature is being worked on and will appear in one of the future releases.

Will it work with 64-bit versions of windows as-well when the real-time scanner is ready.
Good job I'm using firefox and not IE.

Have you ever look at Winpooch? It is GPL so you might be able to re-use some of its code...

for the past 6 or nine months ive been using both avg and clam win i know youve looked before but the code from avg may be helpfull
when clamwin fixes this problem and the version auomatically updates i wont be using avg anymore as a community based program like clamwin is the better option - only av program i know of with a forum like this so i know which one gets my support.

What is a more or less time line when this feature could be available?

When scanning a single file, it appears to me that ClamWin still only scans files with those extensions that it has been configured to scan. I set it up to scan the 22 file extensions that I think are the most likely to contain a virus. I did this in order to reduce the scan time for my entire hard drive from two hours to about 30 minutes.
I know it's primarily an on-demand/email scanner, but it appears that they are working toward making it a complete antivirus software program--at least that's what I hope.
Regards,

I'm not actually looking for automated scanning in response to each disk access. What I *am* looking for is automatic scanning of any removable disk when it is mounted. Basically, I want to have CDs, and USB-drives scnned automatically when they are inserted.
Does anyone know of any way I can set that up with the current ClamWin?
Cheers!
Nik

Is this in beta now? If it's pretty far along, it might steal some of the thunder from ClamWin's upcoming RT scanner.
Do you know if it will work with ClamWin instead of the ClamAV port to Windows?

Its a final version as far as I can tell.
From there web site....
"Tech-Protect 4 is a free anti-virus for Windows. Powered by Clam AntiVirus, a community developed free anti-virus toolkit, it is free for business or personal use. Tech-Protect provides on-demand scanning of drives, files or folders, automatic scanning of files that are written to disk or opened from the desktop, and real-time scanning of emails as you download them. It also warns you of potentially suspicious changes to files."
