I've been a member of this forum for two minutes. If other forum members have posted about this
problem, I apologize.

Several months ago I stopped using ClamWin, because I could no longer download the definition files.

Virus definition update files:

Screenshot - Access Denied - Error Code 1020

Here is the Cloudfare link about Error Code 1020:
https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/360029779472-Troubleshooting-Cloudflare-1XXX-errors#error1020

Cloudfare wants me to provide a screenshot of the error message to the website owner. I'm hoping a ClamWin
forum member has a solution.

Thanks guys.

If the problem started about the time you started using Cloudflare, I think there is a conflict there. If so, it is not a ClamWin problem.

Hello GuitarBob.

I performed several Google searches about this problem and finally found the answer. At another forum
(didn't save the link) a ClamWin developer said they no longer allow direct downloads of main.cvd and
daily.cvd. Their servers were constantly pushed to the limit because too many ClamWin users were
manually downloading cvd definition files.

They want you to use FreshClam which is the ClamWin updater. FreshClam patches your cvd files,
which reduces the load on their servers. I've tried using FreshClam at least a dozen times. The
download always fails. Tried FreshClam at "off peak" hours like 3, 4, 5, 6 AM. No luck.

Downloading the cvd files manually is not allowed anymore, and FreshClam doesn't work at all.

An update to this post:

Two minutes ago I asked a friend to try manually downloading a cvd file. He did not get Cloudfare's
"Access Denied." In fact, he was able to start the download with no problems.

I cannot explain any of this. That ClamWin developer said manually downloading cvd files was
permanently blocked.

If your friend is not using Cloudflare, then Cloudflare is the problem.

I don't have ClamWin on this machine (forgive me--I'm personally using Linux Mint!), but see if you can run freshclam by itself.

I've never had this type of problem, but once-in a while, I get a corrupt DB. When this happens, I delete all the ClamWin DB files and then do a manual update. Always works, but copy the DB files somewhere before you delete them just in case.

WOW I did not know they stopped the manual download, thankfully you can copy the files from the directory on your computer to put on another computer - ie my win 98.
GUITAR BOB - Immunet just updated their setup file, and it uses the word CISCO as part of it now. It also said you manually have to turn it on in your control panel - which I did on my windows 7, but then it turned itself off I guess because it saw Microsoft's defender.
Hope all is well, I have not typed in a bit

It's good to hear from you. I think Defender is much better than Immunet, although Defender is often targeted by the bad guys. Microsoft usually fixes things pretty fast though.

I'm still enjoying Linux Mint. I get a malware file now and then on a Clam Av scan, but they've always been false positives so far--usually due to a Foxfire cache file that resembles a malware file.

Glad you are enjoying.
Clam is always blocking google (which I really do not have other than through Avant Browser) as out of date credentials
Funny on my XP box, now I am getting some links saying my time is ahead and won't connect when it is accurate

Maybe the battery for the clock on your XP is going out.

Could you whitelist whatever file ClamWin is triggering on?

Any good tutorials that you know of on how to use ClamAV in Linux? I've never been able to get the hang of it.

I am using the ClamTk GUI for Linux for Clam AV. You have to run Clam Av manually on Linux, but you can do it via the GUI, which includes the basics that you need to run Clam AV--update and scan and quarantine and whitelist and analysis (check a file on Virus Total). That's about it--you can't do as much as you can with ClamWin on Windows. You will be told when there is a new version of the GUI, which includes new versions of Clam AV. Get the program via your Linux version Advanced Packaging Tool (APT).

On the command line via terminal, Enter sudo apt-get update to update your APT
On the command line via terminal, Enter sudo apt-get install ClamTk to install ClamTk

If I've missed something, just do some searching on the web.

I conducted a number of Google searches regarding this issue before locating the solution. A ClamWin developer stated on another forum (didn't preserve the URL) that direct downloads of main.cvd and daily.cvd are no longer permitted<a>.</a> Too many ClamWin customers were manually downloading cvd definition files, continually straining their servers.

What was the date of that post? I have been downloading the updates lately when I boot up my Windows PC without any problem.
