I am a windows 10 user, and after I complete a full scan Clam crashes.
Regardless of how long I wait after the scan is complete, it still crashes, and becomes unresponsive.
Any idea why it would do this, and how it can be fixed?
thank you

You might uninstall ClamWin and then reinstall it. The installation may have gone wrong for some reason.
Let us know here how it goes.
Thanks for using ClamWin! Remember that the ClamWin developers recommend you use it as a backup scanner to a real-time antivirus, like Windows Defender.

Hello, and thank you for replying...
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled Clam 2 times, and it has the same results.
It continues to Crash, and then it is unresponsive.
Very puzzling

Since you are referring to "Clam", I want to make sure that you are using ClamWin--not the Clam AV for Windows program, which is supported by the Clam AV people. These forums are for ClamWin only.
If you are using ClamWin, how long have you been using it? Did it ever work okay for you? If it once worked okay for you, have you recently installed some other software that might cause this problem?
If using ClamWin, what other Windows security software do you use? Do you get any kind of message when ClamWin stops--either something from ClamWin or from another program or from the Windows system itself?

I am only using clamwin, there are no other Antivirus programs that I am using.
I have been using it for about 3 years.
There is no other software that has been installed that would interfere with Clamwin.
When the program crashes and becomes unresponsive, there is no message at all.
thanks again

Have you always had this problem with ClamWin during the last 3 years or did it just recently start. Also, what version of ClamWin are you using. You should be using 0.103.2.1 which is the latest version.
Get into Task Manager and then run a ClamWin scan. See what else is running/using a lot of memory or disk space during the scan and after it crashes.

This has only happened since the new update, and prior to my reporting ir, I have never had this issue before.
I am running Version 0.103.2.1
Programs that are drawing memory during the scan....
Clam 9.8% under background services, and .1% under Apps
System runs .1%
Desktop Manager runs .1%
Host .1%
Everything else is at 0% (such as...)
Nvidia
VPN
Browser
Windows Explorer
Desktop Manager
Host process Manager
thanks
Windows audio
and all normal Services

Looks okay to me! See if you can end he non-hardware processes (via right-click in Task Manager), one at a time, and then do a scan after each end and see how it goes. If one of them is a problem, the scan should work okay after you delete it.
Try this, get back to us. I'll try to get help from Sherpya if this is unsuccessful.

Thanks,
I reinstalled Windows and now it works, it must have been a virus, but with Clam not working I could not find it.
thanks for all your assistance,

Well, I am glad it now works. I doubt that a virus was involved--you would have probably noticed something else besides ClamWin not finishing its scans. ClamWin is not targeted by many viruses because it's user base is so small.
The ClamWin developers recommend that you use a real-time AV as primary and use ClamWin as a backup AV. The free version of any major AV would be good if you don't want to use Windows Defender. Failing that, you could get Eset's free Online Scanner and use it once a day, but it's not a real-time scanner. You don't need to install it. Just download it to your computer or USB.
Thanks for using ClamWin!
