How long should I expect downloading virus updates to take? Mine has taken several hours so far and I am wondering if it is actually working? I dont want to leave my wireless internet connection on overnight. I have W98se and a broadband connection. I am thinking of switching off and trying again tomorrow after updating the program, which I havnt done since reading all the problems users are getting with the later versions. Any advice please?

Well, initially and every couple of months database download is just over 5MB, then it downloads increments of 500KB-1MB

Should I be getting evidence that the virus definitions are being updated? Nothing seems to be happening except the moving 'downloading' graphics which are there even if not connected to the internet so that proves nothing, and the request via ZoneAlarm to allow connection which does prove something but I am not sure what! After giving permission the program sits there for hours seeming to do nothing until I get fed up and turn it off, and the report button does not show any activity has taken place.

I did succeed in downloading the latest version of ClamWin but this does not seem to have had any effect regarding downloading the virus updates. Help please!

hello,
I reported same problem with subject "freshclam problem win98+clamwin 0.88.3"
With clamwin 0.87.1, all was fine...

I think the problem is related to the new version and win98...
(I have another box with XP that works fine)

I have had this problem a couple of times when I perform a manual update--it might do better if you are already on line when you request it. Manual updates are usually pretty quick, so if it takes longer than a minute or so (on DSL), I stop it. Also, how often do you perform automatic updates? There is a schedule in your configuration options. I'm not sure about this, but you might not want to do them manually too often--use the automatic configuration schedule instead.

Regards,
