A newbie here and first time user...
the forums aren't providing me with the info I need so here goes...

How do I scan a Particular File or Folder only, without having to scan the entire C: drive?

When I go to the Icon for scanning a selected file/folder, all it does is start scanning and I have no way or don't know how to be
selective in making it scan only one file or folder. Question

If I can't do that, then I'm outta luck....

Thanks for any assistance

You can scan one file by finding it with Windows Explorer (which lets you see the contents of your hard drive), right clicking on the file, and selecting Scan With ClamWin Antivirus. You can also do this on a folder to scan just that folder.

Since ClamWin is not a real-time scanner (it only scans on-demand when you tell it to or when a scan is scheduled), you should use a real-time scanner as your primary antivirus and rely upon ClamWin as a backup scanner. There are several good free real-time scanners, such as Windows Defender/Security Essentials that comes with Windows computers, and Panda Free Antivirus. These two AVs are easy to use/configiure.

Thanks for using ClamWin!

I have a folder on my desktop that I use for downloading files...

I can get to the file I want scanned with no trouble....

What I can't do is go to that one single file in the folder, right click on it and then scan if from my thumb drive with ClamWin on it like I can with malware bytes!

That's what I want to do.....can I do it that way? If I have to jump thru hoops then I'll scrap this idea using CW.

Okay, if you have ClamWin on a thumb drive, you must have the portable version. The portable version is the responsibility of the Portable Apps people. This forum(s) is for users of the original ClamWin program. There are some differences between the two applications. The portable version does not have some of the capabilities of the original program. I suggest that you contact the portable apps people for help with this, but is sounds to me like you can't do this with the portable app.

When you scan one file by itself, ClamWin ignores the "whitelist" of files to exclude, and it ignores the extensions to scan also--it will scan the file no matter what.

Thanks for using ClamWin!

Hello magnogreato:

You can create a batch file in Notepad to accomplish what you want. Instructions at http://forums.clamwin.com/viewtopic.php?t=3963&highlight=onescan+bat

PS You can also doubleclick "C" drive in ClamWin Portable's UI to expand the drive directory, then choose (highlight) the file/folder you wish to scan.
