Thanks for the jnfo, Lipper. It seems they tested this version longer than usual--because of the increased functionality, I guess.

Thanks for the post, Lipper. I was actually about to do it until I realized you did it already, haha.

I wonder why they are using Perl. It always seemed like a dieing language to me. I guess they know what they are doing.

A bit of old news by now, but looks like ClamAV has hit the largest download record with .99. You can view about that here: http://blog.clamav.net/2015/12/clamav-099-release-is-largest-ever.html

ClamAV .99.1 beta was released today. You can read about it and the changes done to it here: http://blog.clamav.net/

I am actually kind of surprised to see so many bugs being fixed out in this version. Usually ClamAV is pretty stable and contains only minimal bugs.

ClamAV is making new main.cvd and daily.cvd files and will be released on March 12th-13th. The main benefit is that there will be more features and better management process.

You can read more about it here: http://blog.clamav.net/2016/03/clamav-will-release-new-maincvd-and.html

ClamAV has begun it's process of making the new main.cvd and daily.cvd files. They claim there will not be any updates to the database until this process is completed. You can read more here: http://blog.clamav.net/2016/03/clamav-signature-interface-has-begun.html

The ClamAV signature maintenance is now complete. ClamAV mentions that if you had white listed signatures, you may need to redo them as many signatures were renamed in the process. Besides that, this new database work should help speed up the process of publishing signatures and should make it much easier to do these maintenance routines in the future more often.

I wonder if they got the spelling right--they may have meant Arnaud Jacques, who was previously a sigmaker with the original Clam AV team.

Here is a simplified and quicker way on how to create your own signatures for ClamAV: http://blog.clamav.net/2016/06/create-your-own-anti-virus-signatures.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Clamav+%28ClamAV%C2%AE%29

Not entirely sure what ClamAV is asking, but it sounds like they want to make some feed program where users post their name, email and signatures there so they can report if your signature was a false positive to help reduce future false positives. This is not mandatory, but it is highly recommend that users who write signatures for ClamAV to do this. You can read more about this here: http://blog.clamav.net/2016/06/clamav-signatures.html
