Hello Aru,

I like your program as it is the only one running on Windows 7 64 Bit (except the "Commerical" Immunet protect stuff). As for version 1.13, what are your plans for the future versions of this nice little proggy?

Thank you and regards

Aru does not check the ClamWin forum too much any more. You can reach him at the Clam Sentinel web site at http://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web. ClamSentinel is a separate project from ClamWin.

He devotes a good amount of time to ClamSentinel, and I understand he is testing something now.

Hi freefighter,

I'm testing the new version 1.14 that is coming soon (probably at the end of this month).

The new version will contain a first step of a system monitor that intercepts changes made by new malwares not still recognized by ClamWin (a new option).

I'm really glad Clam Sentinel works well on Win7 64bit, I never tested it on this architecture.

Hello Aru,

thanks for your answer. I am really glad to hear this news from you and appreciate your work really much. Another feature for your monitor would be a protection against unwanted stop or killing of your program. A virus or malware could switch it off. As far as I know MS has integrated a mechanism to prevent a program from being stopped from an unwanted application (prevx in Windows Visza/7)). This would even extend your nice little program.

Thank you and regards!

WinPatrol has some registry monitoring features that enables you to protect programs that you want to. In fact, the author says that he will build into it specific registry protection for a program if the author requests it.

At the moment, Sentinel is not too visible for malware writers, so protection is not as important for it as for some other AVs. Even if ClamWin is killed, I think Sentinel should still work in real time. You can also run Sentinel/ClamWin from a USB stick for less visibility. Just make sure to update ClamWin frequently--I do not believe you can schedule anything from USB.

Hello Alberto,

Sentinel is running fine on several of my machines so far (Win XP, Vista, Windows 7 64 Bit). When do you plan to release V 1.15 and which features will this nice piece of protection software include?

Thank you for your great work!

Clam Sentinel verson 1.14 is a major upgrade that provides a significant improvement in protection for users via heuristics, and it took several months for Andrea to develop. Because of this, I do not think you will see anything but "tweaks" to the program for a while. Version 1.15 with a couple of small changes is now being tested.

You can give Andrea your comments and suggestions for improvement at the Clam Sentinel Web site at http://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web.

I do not think there is a changelog for Clam Sentinel (or ClamWin for that matter). Anyway, this is the ClamWin forum, so you should visit the Clam Sentinel site at http://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web and look at support/help.

Missing clamwin.conf file

Clam Sentinel notifies me each time it starts that it cannot find the file, clamwin.conf. It asks me to enter the location in Sentnel's .ini file. But I cannot find the file by searching with Windows explorer. Is it important? And how can I replace it and where? I tried re-installing both clamwin and clan sentinel, but still get the same error message.

I will answer this, but you should visit Clam Sentinel at http://sourceforge.net/projects/clamsentinel/ on the web. You can start a discussion or report a bug there. The Visit Sentinel Web Site option in the Sentinel system tray menu only takes you to a download site.
Clam Sentinel is a separate project from ClamWin.

The Clam Sentinel .ini file configures the program to run on your computer, so it is very important. Clam Sentinel usesl the ClamWin signatures/configuration to use for real-time scanning for viruses. The Sentinel .ini file is located in C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Roaming\ClamSentinel on a Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 computer. On a Windows XP machine, it is in Documents & settings under the main user. I don't know where it is on a Windows 98 computer. A generic location is %appdata%. Below is the section of the .ini file dealing with the location of the ClamWin configuration file. I use Windows 7, so there is no ; beside it. all other comments and instructions start with a ; to indicate they are not used. Find the correct location for your computer and delete the beginning ; and make sure there is a ; beside every other comment--including the description of your computer. I hope this helps. If it does not, visit the Sentinel web site. Thank you for using ClamWin/Clam Sentinel.

;### Path of the directory that contains the file ClamWin.conf

;***** on Windows 98/ME
;PathClamWin=C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Roaming\.clamwin\

;***** on Windows NT/XP/2000, Vista, Windows 7
PathClamWin=%APPDATA%\.clamwin\

;***** on ClamWin Portable
;PathClamWin=..\..\..\data\settings

Does anyone know if Clam Sentinel runs on Server 2012? I haven't been able to find any info on that. Smile

I don't know how well Clam Sentinel will work in that environment, but Andrea has strengthened the current version 1.21 for network use. It has been tested on a local organization there in Italy.
