Problem getting updated clamav.net file

For several weeks at least I have been getting these error messages when trying to update my signature file.


WARNING: Incremental update failed, trying to download daily.cvd
ERROR: Can't get information about database.clamav.net: Non-recoverable failure in name resolution
ERROR: Can't download daily.cvd from database.clamav.net
Giving up on database.clamav.net...
Update failed. Your network may be down or none of the mirrors listed in c:\users\jvalluzz\appdata\local\temp\tmpebu54w is working. Check http://www.clamav.net/doc/mirrors-faq.html for possible reasons.

I assume you are doing manual updates. Do automatic updates work for you? If they do, I wouldn't worry about it.

Okay. I see there have not been many signature updates for a while, but there have been no error messages. Looks like I had only one update today.

Try this: copy the 4 db files to another folder and then delete them (and any other files) from the ClamWin Db folder and then do a manual update. If it doesn't update, you can copy the 4 files back to the ClamWin Db folder. Let's see how this goes.

This does not work Confused the only antivirus that can work with windows 2003 server cannot update the database Rolling Eyes

It looks like the program is looking for an update that is not there. I suggest you try this:

Copy all files in the Program Data\ClamWin\db folder to somewhere so they are saved in case this doesn't work. Then delete every file in the ClamWin\db folder. Then do a manual update of the database. I have a similar problem a couple of times a year, and this usually works. Let us know how it goes.

Good! Keep this fix in mind for future use. It also works if/when the virus database becomes corrupted (it happens).

I'm not sure that it is a bug. This has been an occasional problem for years. Even if it is a bug, I don't think the ClamWin developer(s) can do anything about it. They only prepare a Windows port of the C code from the Clam AV project for Linux email servers. Clam AV (now owned by Cisco) is responsible for the program code and the virus database. The ClamWin developers basically add a graphical user interface (GUI) to the Clam AV code and make a few small changes needed to accommodate operation on Windows.
